Richard Ulm, DC, MDT-Cert

Dr. Ulm has been with CCRC since the beginning. Wanting to offer the best possible, most progressive care to the Columbus community, after graduating from National University of Health Sciences in 2011, he opened up Columbus Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center.  Dr. Ulm has a long history with athletics and strength & conditioning, which has profoundly influenced his clinical approach. Trained by Jud Logan (4x Olympian and world-famous track coach), he won two NCAA Division II National Championships in college and competed on the US national level for 5 years. The pinnacle of his career was competing at the 2004 Olympic Trials in Sacramento, CA. In addition to being an athlete himself, he was also a strength coach at the collegiate and post-collegiate levels.

His over 15 year career in sports is what shaped his functional approach to treating patients. It made him realize that the best care utilizes a variety of treatment techniques, not just joint manipulation. To this end, he is an avid consumer of information, always looking for the best therapies to utilize with his patients. Dr. Ulm is a certified provider by the Motion Palpation Institute (MPI), for whom he also teaches. MPI is a functional based approach to chiropractic that integrates rehabilitation with joint manipulation. He is also a certified McKenzie provider (MDT-Cert). McKenzie is regarded by many as the most powerful conservative treatment tool for spine pathology such as disc injuries, sciatica, and low back pain. McKenzie is traditionally a physical therapy tool. At the time he was certified, there were less than 200 chiropractors in the world to achieve this status since McKenzie’s inception over 60 years ago. He is also a certified provider of and instructor for Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), which is a world famous, function-based, neurological approach to rehabilitation.
In his treatments, Dr. Ulm blends these certifications with his extensive background in athletics to provide the best possible care to each and all of his patients. In addition to getting his patient’s out of pain, he seeks to address the source of his patient’s symptoms so as to minimize the likelihood that it will return. Dr. Ulm has a passion for teaching. He teaches all over the world to professional sports teams, conferences, hospitals, clinics, and gyms on rehabilitation and strength training. Dr. Ulm also loves to exercise and tries to “move every day”, whether it be weight lifting, kettlebell training, cycling, or CrossFit. He loves to travel and feels lucky to be married to his amazing wife Jackie, with whom he is trying to see the world.
